A particular the past about Pattaya

Pattaya’s title progressed from the march of Phraya Tak (later King Taksin) and his soldiers out of Ayutthaya to Chanthaburi. This took area ahead of the crash of the previous capital to the Burmese invaders in 1767.

When his soldiers appeared at the bounds of what is now Pattaya, he came across the troops of Nai Klom, who sought to intercept him. When the 2 leaders met face to face, Nai Klom was awed by Phraya Tak’s dignified manner and his army’s strict discipline. He then surrendered without having a struggle. The area the two armies confronted each other was named Thap Phraya, which means the Military of the Phraya. This was later changed to Phatthaya, which happens to mean the wind blowing coming from the southwest to the northeast at the starting of the rainy season. In these days the city is officially know as Pattaya.

For centuries, Pattaya was a tiny fishing neighborhood. But a adjust happenen on April 26, 1961, when the first group of about 100 American servicemen who were fighting down in the Vietnam Conflict got in Pattaya for relaxation. Coming from this beginning, Pattaya became a well-liked seaside resort which now allure hundreds of thousands of visitors. Fishermen’s huts along the beach were replaced by resort hotel and shopping malls. Fishing boats were adapted to become tourism boats.

Pattaya Girl Friendly Hotel Reviews

Pattaya’s red light district has some of the best go go bars and adult male entertainment on this side of Thailand’s seaboard. With go go bars that allow nude dancers it’s no wonder why many frequent travelers to Bangkok make a special side trip to this once sleepy side fishing village.

To take full advantage of Pattaya’s gritty and sexual nightlife it’s best to book a hotel that has a girl friendly policy. What does that mean exactly? It simply means that you won’t have to pay a silly fee for taking a lady, usually a bar girl, back to your room. This fee is normally called a joiner fee and in Pattaya it’ll cost you 500 Baht or more.

Become to live Pattaya

Thailand by Mistifarang - el primero Unico de l'Escala

Pattaya is located in Eastward Thailand on the northen seacoast of the Gulf of Thailand. It is 150 km to the south east of Bangkok. Pattaya has become well known for its bars and nighlife, now the government is attempting real hard to provide family minded activities and thigs to see, and devoted exhibition and sporting installations. Even though the sex bussines in Pattaya is performing well, the town continues to attrack numerous foreign visitants as local families and business sectors
Efforts by the local authorizations over the previous few years have cleared the quality of the beaches, but they are still not up to the high standards set by beaches in the southern part of Thailand, and over-development has long since obliterate several of the natural enamours the region formerly had. All The Same, the plethora of hotels and guest houses, and good approach from the capital and airport, make it a popular weekend getaway. Suppluing to almost 5,000,000 tourist a year, Pattaya has allot to do and the dining picks are plenty. Its population is a brilliant flux of nationalities and ethnicities from near and far.

Knowing he wasn’t likely to be getting out a car maintenance manual or a picnic basket, I whipped out my camera, quickly switched it to video and raced across the road to film and photograph the action for this column.
By the time I got there I saw, in seconds, that the Thai guy had taken out a machete from his car boot, and had advanced towards the American with it, but that the American had quickly disarmed him, and had grappled him to the ground, where he now lay helpless, in a serious headlock in the road. The American must have been ex-forces for him to have done that so fast and so efficiently. It happened in seconds.
I switched from video to photos (see above) as I saw a taxi motorbike driver come along and furtively bend down behind the American, and go to pick up the machete, and thought he might use it on the American from behind (stranger and more cowardly things have happened here).
So I made the motorbike driver aware I was filming and photographing him, and the incident, and he then held onto the machete and hung back. He may have just been picking it up as a common courtesy. Who knows.
The cowardly idiot machete owner, having had the tables turned on him so comprehensively, and lying pinioned in the gutter, finally acknowledged that he had had enough punishment and the American let him go.
I was busy taking photos of the car, the car licence plate, the Thai guy, the motorbike driver and the machete, and when I turned round to speak to the American, to offer my photos to him as evidence, he had disappeared, as had the old foreigner motorbike driver, and life on the street quickly returned to normal again like nothing had happened.
I was amused that the motorbike taxi driver asked the cowardly moron for some money for helping him conceal the machete (he put it in the car’s trunk for him), but the Thai guy didn’t pay him anything, and just jumped in his car and drove off.
I walked down the road and showed the photos to a police assistant and he noted down the licence plate and he said he would radio ahead to try to stop the car, but I bet he didn’t.
I can’t help feeling appalled at this level of sheer stupidity and cowardly violence demonstrated not even at night on Walking Street, where anything seems to go, but by a seemingly upstanding middle class citizen in the middle of the day on a busy road in the centre of a tourist city like Pattaya against an unarmed, public spirited tourist.
I still have the photos and video if anyone involved would like them as evidence.

Most of the girl friendly hotels in Pattaya are in close proximity to the epicenter of Walking Street, a popular strip of road near the beach filled with top quality bar girls. It’s also not a bad idea to stay on Second Road and Third Road. Any of these hotels will put you near the action but far enough not to see it and hear it, and believe me the partying in Pattaya can get quite loud.

One of the most popular girl friendly hotel is Areca Lodge on Soi Diana next to Second Road. This hotel has some of the cleanest rooms in excellent condition. It’s about a 5 to 10 minute walk to Pattaya beach and Walking Street. A standard room there will only cost you 1200 Baht and really well worth it.

Another popular girl friendly hotel is called Sunshine Hotel & Residence. It has 2 swimming pools. Need I say more? For 900 Baht per night you can be sure that it may be a bit difficult to get a room here since many tourist want to stay there. While located on Beach Road you’re definitely near all the action.

My personal favorite is the Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa. With the Marriott brand name you’ll be sure to experience the ultimate in comfort and luxury. It does cost more to stay there but if you can splurge for a few days then do so at the Marriott. Currently a standard yet extremely luxurious room will set you back 4700 Baht.

Playing the Greenwood Golf and Resort for the first time in several years last week I was pleasantly surprised by the improved course conditions, locker rooms, and halfway houses on the course. Courses A&B were the only 9’s that were open, so it was an easy choice of which of the 27 holes to play for my group.

To make a long story short, Greenwood Golf is the best Pattaya golf value for 2009. Green fees of only 20 Euros qualifies the golf course for the low budget category, but course design, challenge, and most of all improved conditions put it smack in the middle of the Pattaya golf courses in terms of quality. While not as polished as Siam Country Club, Greenwood is certainly on par or slightly above the likes of Khao Kheow, which is just down the road in fact. Green speed on the day I played was quoted at 10, and while fast, seemed to be more around 9, at least to me.

Designed by Peter Thomson, 5 times British Open champion, and Michael Wolverine, Greenwood Golf is a British style course with many unique American woodland features.

Each hole is dotted with characteristic pot bunkers, undulating fairways, and areas of native grasses, both more often found on links courses. However, do not be fooled, this is no links nor even links styled golf course. Heavy forests line the fairways and wayward balls result in difficult recovery shots or worst, balls lost to the jungle.

I was in Pattaya last night with the remote control in my hands flicking rapidly through the channels when I stopped and went back to the one that had passed by in the blink of an eye — I’d seen something very interesting.

It was His Majesty King Bhumibol being pushed in a wheelchair, obviously at the hospital. Adoring Thais were seen everywhere in the background of the news footage.

I watched the news report to its conclusion. It was good to see His Majesty up and around, though the 81 year old monarch looked very weak after a month in the hospital, with a pillow propped behind his head in the wheelchair.

Hopefully his recovery will continue.

Here is the news report from today’s Bangkok Post:

King appears in public
Well-wishers at hospital given welcome surprise

* Published: 24/10/2009 at 12:00 AM
* Newspaper section: News

His Majesty the King has appeared in public for the first time after spending more than a month in hospital being treated for inflammation of his lungs.

Hundreds of well-wishers crowding Siriraj Hospital’s compound to check for news updates were given a welcome surprise when they saw the King come down from his hospital ward on the 16th floor yesterday afternoon.

Sitting on a padded electric wheelchair, His Majesty was accompanied by doctors, nurses and security officers.

“Long Live the King,” cheered the people as the King travelled past lines of well-wishers to pay homage to the statue of King Rama V, his grandfather.

Yesterday was Chulalongkorn Memorial Day. The nation commemorated the day when King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) passed away 99 years ago.

Well-wishers, when seeing His Majesty, kneeled to pay their respects. Many were tearful while others yelled out loudly to wish the King a long life.

The King’s unannounced public appearance helped ease the concerns among many people about his health.

“My worries have now disappeared after living with rumours for weeks,” said Prapai Bunsawan, 79.

Like other people who signed a visitors’ book for the King, Ms Prapai urged politicians to stop arguing. Good deeds and a peaceful society would keep the King happy, she said.

His Majesty, who wore a blue shirt, was looking cheerful yesterday. He talked with doctors occasionally as cardiologist Pradit Panjawinin wheeled him round.

Dr Pradit is a director for Her Majesty the Queen’s Cardiac Centre at Siriraj Hospital.

The King also went to pay homage to a statue of Prince Mahidol of Songkhla, his father, and a portrait of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra Boromrajajonani, his mother. He also saw the exhibition of his late mother, held to celebrate the 109th anniversary of her birth on Oct 21, before moving on for a sightseeing tour around many areas of the hospital compound.
